Helldivers 2 for the PS5 and PC is now out, and we've enlisted three IGN staff members to take on the disgusting bug like Terminids, and the Terminator-esque Automatons, in this explosive, intense and bloody 18 minutes of 4K 60FPS gameplay - all captured with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 GPU.
The trailer opens like a galactic military recruitment video and showcases the game’s brand new third-person gameplay, teasing much more intense battlefields compared to the first game.
There's also friendly fire in the game, so the last thing you want to do is take down your fellow Helldivers. If you want to lock onto a target and be even steadier with your aim, try crouching.

Every firefight feels like a war between trying to eradicate every enemy on the screen and just taking off and running for your life, in a way that’s somehow both extremely nerve-wracking and absolutely hilarious.

Visually, Helldivers 2 benefits immensely from the move from topdown to full third-person 3D visuals. Although the planets are barren, they are studded with bases, hives and wreckage sites, and they provide cover and height where needed. The interplay between players is frenzied and amusing. Controversially, the game has team killing switched on, so if you’re a little wild with your machine gun or nuclear strikes, you can easily take out a pal or two.
By far the biggest way Helldivers 2 switches things up from the original is by moving to the third-person perspective, and so far I’m pleasantly surprised how well that transition works. I was initially skeptical about the change given how much the bird’s eye view was part of the original’s DNA, but it only took a matter of seconds for my concerns to disappear. Getting closer to the action feels great and allows for some really hilarious moments, like when I accidentally called in an airstrike that took out the Helldivers 2 Gameplay rest of my team or when I found myself surrounded by absolutely terrifying robots and used my jetpack to leap to safety.
Controls feel sluggish compared to most 3rd person games. Graphics are good, but game play is literally the wash rinse and repeat, over and over again.
